TZEDAKAH
learn a little bit more about our projects
Tzedakah means “rightous behavior” or “justice.” As part of their Jewish studies, Hazel, Leo and Clementine are encouraged to participate in tikkun olam (repairing of the world) by volunteering their time to a cause important to them.
Reading and writing is a passion for all three, and they know that it comes easier for some than others. To inspire those who may have a more difficult time falling in love with books and stories, they’ve decided to participate in tikkun olam by creating a program called Austin Story Makers.
Austin Story Makers is working with 3rd and 4th graders at area elementary schools (starting with Leo and Hazel’s alma mater, Ridgetop Elementary) to encourage reading and writing through a book club and opportunities to write, draw, and tell stories in creative ways.
Would you like to support Austin Story Makers? Tzedakah in the form of gift cards to our beloved local bookshop, Bookpeople, will ensure that this group can provide free books to all who participate!
